The Alien Escort Ship sports an incredible 20 armor rating on all sides, causing anything with 20 or less damage to be harmlessly absorbed by the armor. This renders it completely immune to the 40mm Auto Cannon and Bolter 4000 Laser Gun and highly resistant to most other conventional weapons. The challenge of bringing down an Escort Ship is further magnified as it also boasts a very high max speed and may carry a Cloaking Field to prevent missiles from locking on. The only weapons that work reliably against a cloaked Escort Ship are Medium and Heavy Disruptor Beams, although the Lineage Plasma Cannon will have some effect.

By itself the Escort Ship isn't a threat since its only weapon is a Stasis Bomb Launcher. However, the stunning effect of its missiles may make it difficult to intercept the Battleship or Mothership being escorted. The Escort Ship is a craft that the Aliens will keep using until the Control Chamber is destroyed.

The Escort Ship has one entrance at the western side of the craft located inside the deep trench. The part of the craft directly above the trench is weak and explosive. It can provide an alternative entrance to flying troops but may also drop debris onto your troops.

This craft is fast and nimble. On its own it represents no threat, but is deadly when combined with other Alien combat ships. It is armed with a missile which generates a Stasis Field on impact. Alien Escort Ship

¹ Armour values are for: Top/Front/Left/Right/Rear

Alien Escort Ships (UFO Type 8) are used during the middle and late game for support and escort of other UFOs. The craft has no offensive weaponry. It does not infiltrate, bomb, or search. Cityscape Combat
An Escort Ship cannot damage anything. This UFO is used, along with its stasis bombs, to distract X-Com air vehicles in combat so they themselves can be targeted by missiles where it will then activate its cloak effect to confuse the active missile's tracking. The UFOs armor is strong and its speed is fast and if damaged can teleport. If targeted for destruction by X-Com, concentrated firepower and many hits will disable the cloak effect temporarily so that guns and missiles can accurately target this UFO.
Crash Recovery

Door Location: West
Door Location: West

The crash-recovery battlescape shows the pink UFO has impacted the ground hard and slid easterwards into the terrain leaving a deep trench behind.
Access into the UFO is via a large door on the western side, in the deep tranch.

Battlescape Combat
The crash recovery battlescape is seven levels high.
The Escort Ship's door access and its location with the deep tranch, limits defensive positions outside. If moving towards the door and strong explosives are used, the part of the craft directly above the trench contains the craft's fuel supply which can detonate and drop debris onto any troops underneath, but can provide an alternative entrance for flying troops.
The grav-lift is located centrally surrounded by a large wide platform which is ideal for ambush since there is no cover when agents are trying to access the higher levels. The upper section of the craft has a intersection which again is an ambush point which weapon misses may impact the intact fuel supply, if not destroyed earlier. Agents are limited in movement due to crossfire from three sides. Destroying the exposed stasis bombs could provide a distraction. If roof access if prefered, the highest point next to the orange roof tiles will be directly over the grav-lift which removes the aliens positional advantage.
Agents which do not have flying ability cannot return to the eastern grassy slopes or roof since access is blocked due to the deployed launchers blocking access, unless destroyed.
Research
A succesfully recovered Escort Ship will provide weapons, devices, and sub-systems for further research or to sell.
