The Ranger serves as a primary reconnaissance unit, capable of moving independently in concealment while engaging enemies at close range. The Ranger is the successor to the Assault class.

Rank Ability

Squaddie
Slash
Attack any enemy within movement range with your sword.
Similar to Run and Gun, Slash allows a full double move followed by a sword attack. Melee attacks have a range of 1 tile, including diagonals, and may strike over half-cover. No cooldown.
Specialization Scout Assault

Corporal
Phantom
When the squad is revealed, this soldier remains concealed.
Soldiers with Phantom always begin a mission concealed, even if the mission type does not allow the squad to begin in concealment.
Blademaster
Deal +2 extra damage on all sword attacks.

Sergeant
Shadowstrike
When concealed, gain +25 bonus aim and +25 bonus critical hit chance when attacking enemies,
Shadowstep
This soldier does not trigger overwatch or reaction fire.

Lieutenant
Conceal
Immediately enter concealment once per mission.
Does not cost an action.
Run and Gun
Take an action after dashing.
3-turn cooldown. Allows item use [Verify?].

Captain
Implacable
If you score one or move kills on your turn, you are granted a single bonus move.
This ability grants a move, not an action.
Bladestorm
Free sword attacks on any enemies that enter or attack from melee range.

Major
Deep Cover
If you did not attack this turn, hunker down automatically.
Overwatch does not count as an attack.
Untouchable
If you score a kill during your turn, the next attack against you during the enemy turn with miss.
Includes area attacks such as grenades.

Colonel
Rapid Fire
Fire twice in a row at an emey. Each shot suffers an Aim penalty of -15. No cooldown.
Reaper
A devastating chain melee attack where the first melee attack cannot miss. Each melee kill in Reaper mode grants an extra action, but further melee attacks have reduced damage.
4-turn cooldown. Cannot combine with Run-and-Gun.
