Elite Muton Interrogation

Elite Muton .Although similar in general appearance to the Muton species our troops have battled in the field, this particular captive is different. We've seen evidence of an inherent intellectual capacity not found in the other variants, and we believe this "Elite" Muton serves a more defined role within the invasion force. The captive's sheer physical power and increased savvy made its interrogation both dangerous and exhilarating. After establishing an enhanced security protocol to deal with the risks involved, we began the interrogation process using our previously established techniques. As it turns out, this captive had the distinct honor of serving as a guard within the alien force, and had a complete understanding of the various weapon systems available to the invaders. With this knowledge in hand, I believe this information will greatly reduce the time we spend researching and developing these advanced new weapons.

Elite Muton Autopsy

Elite Muton Autopsy As if the standard Muton hadn't given our troops enough trouble, the aliens apparently kept several of these "Elites" in waiting for the later stages of their invasion. Although they seem to have the distinct honor of serving as guards within the alien hierarchy, our autopsy of this specimen reveals little in the way of distinguishing anatomical traits versus the typical Muton. Aside from various improvements to their armor, the primary difference appears to be a slightly enhanced intelligence which makes them more effective combatants. The details surrounding this creature's specific combat capabilities should be available during future encounters by targeting one in the Unit Analysis View.

Muton Elites serve primarily as guards to Alien command units. However they are sent out on abduction and terror missions as much as any other alien creature. They are clad in a red suit of armour and a helmet that protect them from heavier damage levels than that of a regular Muton. Muton Elites, combining their innate defense bonus with the ability to use cover are some of the toughest units in the game to take down.

They use devastating heavy plasma rifles and carry grenades like regular Mutons, but with their Bombard ability they can fling their grenades great distances. It pays to have a sniper nearby to provide accurate fire upon them. Using explosives will bypass their defense bonus. Be warned that they are often encountered in groups of three and they also guard incredibly tough units in UFO assaults, so sometimes the main threat does not come from the Elites themselves. Apply the same tactics against Elites as you would against regular Mutons but expect a tougher battle.

Elites are hardly more resistant to psionic attacks than normal Muton troopers, so feel free to add their strength to your own through mind control. Muton Elites' high defense means you may have better luck using Mind Fray on them than trying to shoot them unless you can flank.

Abilities:

• Suppression: Can fire a special shot that grants reaction fire at a single target. The target also suffers a -30 Aim penalty.
• Bombard: Throw or launch grenades over exceptionally long distances.
• Enemy Defense: -20% Hit the Muton Elite

Notes

• The red armor of the Berserkers and Elites may be referencing the Red-Suited Commander Muton (AKA Mr. Angry Red Suit), only seen during the intro of the 1994 game.
