Very light armor.

The tactical vest is what most rookies come equipped with. It offers minimal protection and good mobility, which most players find desirable in the first months of the war. Nonetheless you should either wear protective items or change armor to Phalanx as soon as possible, since the aliens start bringing heavier and more precise weaponry with them.
