What exactly is the purpose of the Community Portal? --Danial 05:03, 19 December 2005 (PST)

Question: how exactly does one get good screen shots from X-Com?  Hitting PRNTSCRN while playing gives me a nigh-unviewable mishmash of color.

A good question.  My suggestion would be that this area would have links to the relevant forums on xcomufo.com, since that's probably the biggest center of whatever X-com community there is.
I've created a secondary copy of the game and used Max's unofficial patch to get decent screenshots, but the res is needlessly high there (640x480).  Is there a relatively straightforward way to get a decent screenshot from the original resolution?

Well, if you hover your cursor over Community Portal, it'll say "About the project, what you can do, where to find things". That seems rather self explanatory, but I don't think the words used in the title are well chosen. My first impression was that it was a sub section for projects done by resident authors.

Still, probably a good place to move all the Getting started and related articles.

Yeah, You're probably right.  Certainly they should probably move from their current position-- it doesn't strike me as useful to put them as the first thing visitors see. Auxiliary pages don't really need the most visible real estate on the site.  --Papa Legba 21:14, 19 December 2005 (PST)

Just look at the Community Portal of the wikipedia. They have that page set-up with a "To Do", "Ongoing Projects", "Help", "About Wikipedia" and "Writing/Reference resources". Why re-invent the wheel? Granted, we don't have to model this area exactly the same, but it does have certain advantages since all the hard work is done. So my vote would be to move the resources and getting started info to the Community Portal page. --Zombie 21:41, 19 December 2005 (PST)

Question: how exactly does one get good screen shots from X-Com? Hitting PRNTSCRN while playing gives me a nigh-unviewable mishmash of color.

I've created a secondary copy of the game and used Max's unofficial patch to get decent screenshots, but the res is needlessly high there (640x480). Is there a relatively straightforward way to get a decent screenshot from the original resolution?
