The Jet Harpoon fires a high pressure jet propelled harpoon with an armour piercing tip. Normally used by divers for shark hunting and other nasty sea creatures, the harpoons have been adapted as X-COM's standard issue underwater rifle. They can be fired both in and out of water with no loss in power or accuracy.

The Jet Harpoon is equipped with an automatic harpoon loader, allowing for a rapid firing three round burst. Extended use of automatic fire will rapidly deplete the Jet Harpoon's 10 harpoon magazine.

Because the aliens in the second invasion have tougher hides than their predecessors, the Jet Harpoon does not come off as being a powerful weapon. Nonetheless, it has sufficient stopping power to defeat most of the earlier alien races that you'll meet, such as Aquatoids and Gillmen.
Like the Dart Gun, the Jet Harpoon is not an especially powerful weapon against moderate to heavy alien armour, but it does have double the power and is faster and easier to aim. It is greatly enhanced with the addition of a three round burst mode.

The Gauss Pistol and the Gauss Rifle quickly outmode the Jet Harpoons. Given sufficient funds, it is highly recommended that Jet Harpoon be replaced with a gauss weapon as the standard issue 'cheap' weapon. Gas Cannons are also good Jet Harpoon replacements for strong aquanauts.
One of the Jet Harpoon's weaker points is its low ammunition capacity of only 10 harpoons. This require the user to carry a plentiful supply of spare harpoon clips for long sorties.

Comparison with UFO: EUs Rifle
The Jet Harpoon is one step forward, 3 steps back from the Rifle.  The magazine is easily depleted during the course of a mission, necessitating extra clips on the Triton.  In addition, aimed accuracy has been dropped markedly, with only a slight decrease in Aimed firing time.  Damage is up slightly, but it isn't enough to drop most aliens.  Automatic accuracy, is up too, but again, TU costs are upped to 'compensate'.  This weapon should be replaced at the first available opportunity

The Jet Harpoon fires a high pressure jet propelled armour piercing harpoon. Like the harpoons used by divers for hunting dangerous sea creatures, the Jet Harpoon has been adapted as X-COM's initial standard underwater rifle for hunting aliens. They can be fired in and out of water with no loss in power or accuracy.

Like the Dart Gun, the Jet Harpoon is not an especially powerful weapon against moderate to heavy alien armour, but it does have double the power and is faster and easier to aim. It is greatly enhanced with the addition of a three round burst mode.

One of the Jet Harpoon's weaker points is its low ammunition capacity of only 10 harpoons. This require the user to carry a plentiful supply of spare harpoon clips for long sorties.

This weapon appears in Terror from the Deep. For the UFO: Enemy Unknown equivalent, refer to the Rifle.
