The enormous Space Port is a vital connection to the outside world. Many passengers pass through
on vacation to Mars or other distant destinations. Large quantities of manufactured goods are exported to the mining colonies and raw materials are imported. The Space Port generates huge revenues, but it would also be lucrative for any raider or terrorist.

This structure is very useful to reduce aircraft launch times if you have a large fleet of aircraft but few launch tubes. You can simply park your vehicles in the Space Port so that they can quickly scramble to meet any UFO incursions or illegal craft.
