Any research involving Alien creatures must be conducted in a Biochemistry Lab. These labs can accommodate up to five Biochemists working at one time and each lab can be assigned a specific research project.  From: Apocalypse Ufopaedia

A Biochemistry Lab is used for researching basic alien lifeforms and other simple biology topics. The central circular device is explosive and will cause a small crater.

A larger facility is available once the relevant research is completed.
