After identifying this as the final battle, X-com commanders had authorised indiscriminate use of Blaster Bombs, Flying Suits, Heavy Plasma, and had assigned the best Psi specialists on Mind Control Duty. As one trooper put it: "Early on in the war, we were up against Sectopods and Psi-Disks armed with nothing but our rifles and thin kevlar. There was more than one time an Ethereal made one of our own men blow up the whole team with a rocket launder... before anyone even stepped off the skyranger. By the end of the war, our Psionists were stronger and more skilled than an Ethereal Commander, and though our weapons were similiar, our armor was stronger than anything on their side, other than their Sectopods. Most important, the man who made it all possible: the Commander of X-com forces. Let me be brief: a true genius in the art of war, and specialist in anti-alien tactics."
